A law graduate can expect a variety of job types including;

  • Solicitor
    Solicitors provide legal advice to clients.

  • Barrister
    Barristers represent clients in a court of law.

  • Attorney (United States)
    In the U.S. legal system there is no drawn distinction between a solicitor and barrister; attorneys legally advise and represent clients.


Most lawyers go on to specialise in the following areas of law;

  • Corporate or company law
    Corporate law is the law that governs the legal models for firms.

  • Criminal law
    Criminal law governs crimes and offences against the state.

  • Human rights law
    Human rights laws are a set of international and domestic laws that intend to protect human rights. International treaties exist to punish human rights violations such as crimes against humanity, war crimes and genocide.

  • International law
    International law deals with the relations between nations, based on a set of agreed rules, treaties and customs.
